The Enrichment and Desorption Unit (EDU) is a fully automated instrument used for thermal desorption and trapping in air analysis. This autonomous device can gather, desorb, inject, and clean multiple times without intervention.
Through adsorption, organic compounds and various analytes can be concentrated by separating them from interfering substances. Depending on the analysis parameters and target substances, the detection limit can improve with an enrichment factor ranging from 10 to 1,000.
Another advantage is that common interfering and/or odorless compounds, such as water, methane and ethanol, can be nearly completely extracted from the sample.
The EDU can easily connect to different detectors and a headspace sampler. Special versions are available that are compatible with standard gas chromatographs (GCs) and micro gas chromatographs (micro GCs).
